New Horizons in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Symposium Held at Atatürk University
Atatürk University hosted an important event with the first edition of the "New Horizons in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry" Symposium Series. The symposium was held on October 25, 2024, at the Prof. Dr. Kemal Bıyıkoğlu Hall in the university's Cultural Center. The event was attended by Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu, academics, students, and invited guests from the healthcare sector.
The event was organized by Atatürk University in collaboration with Health Sciences University, Giresun University, and Karadeniz Technical University. During the opening of the symposium, Prof. Dr. Onur Burak Dursun, a faculty member of the Health Sciences University Faculty of Medicine, discussed significant issues and solutions in child and adolescent psychiatry. Dursun informed the participants about the importance of the symposium and emphasized the value of interdisciplinary studies in the field.
The symposium's Chair, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esen Yıldırım Demirdöğen from Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine, stated that the event aimed to present new perspectives and research in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry. Demirdöğen also mentioned that the topics discussed at the symposium would help enhance the knowledge of specialists in this area.

Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu, speaking as the Honorary Chairman of the symposium, emphasized his great pleasure in hosting such an important event. “This symposium will not only address the current issues in child and adolescent psychiatry but also lay the foundation for developing new research and methods in this field,” said Hacımüftüoğlu, highlighting that the event would be conducted from an interdisciplinary perspective.
"Children and adolescents are the guarantee of our future; their healthy development is vital for the overall well-being of society. Therefore, any research and work in this field is extremely valuable to me," continued Hacımüftüoğlu, adding that he believed the different perspectives and innovative approaches presented at the symposium would offer significant benefits to the participants. He also emphasized that the ever-changing dynamics of medical and health sciences can be better understood through such events, and he believed the symposium would open new horizons for the participants. He concluded his speech by expressing his gratitude to everyone involved in organizing the event.
The symposium also featured expert speakers on various topics. Dr. Dilara Betül Aslan from Health Sciences University, Trabzon Faculty of Medicine presented on “Astronomy and Autism,” Uzm. Dr. Mehmet Ali Donbaloğlu from Erzurum City Hospital spoke about “New Trends in Outcome Measures in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry,” Dr. Cansu Çobanoğlu Osmanlı from Giresun University, Faculty of Medicine discussed “Technology Addiction in the World: A Global Perspective,” Dr. Esra Hoşoğlu from Karadeniz Technical University, Faculty of Medicine presented on “Technology-Based Interventions in Addiction Treatment,” and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sedat Altuğ from Demiroğlu Science University gave a presentation on “The Role of Food Supplements in Neurodevelopmental Disorders: What is the Optimal Dose?”
The symposium provided participants with information on current issues in the field and offered solutions while paving the way for new research and collaborations.
